An Islamic Educational Institute
Insight begins where
the light is lit.
دَار الْبَصِيرَة: the House of Insight
Dar Al-Basirah is a new Islamic institute built to open the sciences that give insight into the Deen, beginning with the language that unlocks them all: Arabic.
The name, and the lantern
A light in a dark room shows you what was always there.
Basirah means insight
Basirah is the insight that lets you truly perceive, not merely look. We chose it because that is exactly what sound knowledge does: it doesn't create the truth, it reveals it. Like a lit lantern, it doesn't create a room; it lets you finally see the room you were already standing in.
Why we begin with Arabic
The Qur'an and the Sunnah were revealed in Arabic. Every science we intend to teach, from tafsir and hadith to fiqh and aqidah, is read through it first. Arabic is the lantern that lets you read the books of Islam directly, in their own words, rather than through the walls of translation.
Insight, not just information
Our aim is not limited to Arabic. Every Islamic science, studied properly, gives insight into how to know and worship Allah. Arabic is where Dar Al-Basirah starts, not where it ends.
Our founding programme
The Arabic Course
A structured, sequential path through the Madinah Arabic Books, the same series relied upon by Islamic institutes worldwide, taught with the discipline of a real classroom, not a casual course.
Assessed placement
Every applicant sits an in-person assessment so they're placed at the right level, whether they're starting at the alphabet or already reading with partial understanding.
The Madinah Books
A proven, sequential curriculum building from the Arabic alphabet through to reading and understanding real Islamic texts, with grammar, vocabulary and reading built together.
Built to grow
Arabic is where Dar Al-Basirah begins. The long-term aim is a full institute covering the wider Islamic sciences, and Arabic is the foundation the rest is built on.
Founding collaboration with Discover Islam. Dar Al-Basirah's Arabic course runs in partnership with Discover Islam, who support the programme and its funding. Their New Muslim Box initiative works alongside our buddy system to support reverts.
How the collaboration works
The Buddy System
Every revert student is paired with a born-Muslim buddy for the duration of the course. They needn't share a class, but they are buddied regardless, so no one is learning Arabic, or navigating the Deen, alone.
A revert to Islam, joining the Arabic course.
A born Muslim, walking alongside them throughout.
